“By God, if he is recognized, he will surely be harmed. Return with your nephew immediately and protect him from enemies”.

The Dispute Over the Black Stone

That same year, when the Quraysh rebuilt the Ka’bah following flood damage, a fierce dispute arose among the clans over who would have the honor of placing the sacred Black Stone (Hajr al-Aswad) in its position. 

The dispute nearly led to civil war until an elder suggested that the first person to enter the Ka’bah the next morning would be their arbitrator.

The Wise Solution of Al-Amin

That person was Muhammad ﷺ. Upon seeing him, everyone exclaimed: “There goes Al-Amin! We shall agree with his verdict.” 

His solution was remarkable: he spread a cloth on the ground, placed the Black Stone in its center, and asked the chiefs of all tribes to hold different ends and lift it together. 

When they reached the construction site, Muhammad ﷺ himself placed the stone in its position—thus averting bloodshed through wisdom and unifying the community through shared participation.
